BIOGRAPHY

Ian Hermès Babylon (he/they) is a multi-media artist who lives and works along the riverside lands of the Indigenous Massachusett peoples. Ian’s background and continued passion for Anthropology and Art History fuse in an array of expression: from hand-cut collage to free monthly full moon dances. Dada, Absurdism, & Satire help him cope with minding the Abyss of Terminal Stage Capitalism. Themes of power, community, alternative pasts and futures, and ecological salvation flow together into the primary currents of his work while navigating the Living River of time and space.

My childhood was spent scouting hemlock forests and vernal pools of the pre-Berkshire hilltowns only just westward of the Connecticut River Valley before coming of age in the crucible that is Chicopee, MA. Due to systemic negligence I sought my fortunes elsewhere, so off to the Boston area I landed some 15 years ago. The friends along the way have made all the difference. :]

I am active in the Reclaiming Tradition and the Nor’East Web community. Unusual houseplants and all music are additional passions. My preferred scholarly readings include: Pyramid Collection, derelict auction catalogues, Time-Life’s Mysteries of the Unknown series, and the works of Patti Smith, Carl Sagan, Robert A. Heinlein, John Waters, Helen Molesworth, Susan Sontag, and Joseph Campbell.

With due notice you are always welcome for Sunday Tea,
simply drop me a line to find a time that works for us both.
Until then Sailor,
-Ian Babylon
